Meet The Parents
We asked Sean Mahan, who sings the BART song and also plays guitar and bass in the band, about how the song came to be.
"The Parents is a transbay band, so practices usually end with someone asking, 'Did you drive here, or did you take the BART?' ", he said. "At some point, one of us noticed what a rhythmic phrase 'we took the BART' is, and the song was born! Beyond that, I just like public transportation. BART's sci-fi looks and synthesized announcements make life a little more interesting. After the song was written, we rode around with a little mp3 recorder gathering BART sounds, which get played over the song at shows and in the recording."
"We'd like to make a nicer video for the song, but just haven't gotten around to it yet. We'll let you know if we hear back from the mysterious creator of the YouTube video!"
All the band members share in the songwriting; the other members are: Emily Cooper on guitar, bass and vocals;
Sara Johnsen on keyboards and vocals; Chris Vlasses on drums and vocals.
The band has a gig coming up at The Make-Out Room in San Francisco on July 3.You can take BART! (24th St. Mission Station)
